This performance easily accommodates the bandwidth requirement of 130MHz required of SXGA monitors using a refresh rate of 100Hz. The ZL40122/23 further enhance performance with industryleading linearity and stability. At frequencies of 1MHz, with 2Vpp (volts peak-to-peak) signals, driving a 100-ohm load, the devices have total harmonic distortion of only -83dB (decibels). This allows the devices to effectively handle the gain and frequency response shaping of red, blue and green signals. The optimized differential gain (0.015%) and differential phase (0.04º) are also more than adequate for transmitting composite video format such as PAL and NTSC. As a result, co-channel interaction is minimized, while video resolution, color saturation and hue are improved. Zarlink’s ZL40122/23 amplifiers also provide low quiescent current. Drawing only 5.2mA/A (milliamps per amp) of standby current, the devices meet the battery life requirements of monitors used in portable consumer devices and laptop computers. Publication Number PP5845 Applications The PC extender shown below illustrates how Zarlink’s ZL40122/23 operational amplifiers provide the best overall solution to meeting the performance and power consumption required of high-speed video applications. Zarlink’s ZL40122/23 devices amplify, buffer, filter and condition video signals for transmission over a CAT 5 cable to drive computer monitors based on VESA’s (Video Electronics Standards Association) 1280x1024-pixel SXGA (super extended graphics array) specification. The amplifiers meet the requirements of high-resolution SXGA monitors by leveraging a world-class HJV (high-performance, process version J, high-voltage) complementary bipolar process to offer industry-leading bandwidth, linearity and stability. In a closed-loop circuit with a gain of 2, driving a 100-ohm load, the ZL40122/23 amplifiers support bandwidths up to 450MHz.
