The FF ICoT provides accuratemeasurements of valve stem position, input signal, actuatorpressure and travel time. With the ICoT’s internal trending capability, information for control valve signa-ture generation is developed foruse in predictive maintenance. The ICoT
TM 5400 provides intelli-gence for the control valve througha microprocessor-based systemutilizing the Foundation Fieldbusprotocol. Accurate measurement of valve stem position, input sig- nal, actuator pressure, cycle timeand cycle count data can be record-ed during normal operation, thereby providing information for control valve signature generation.

Foundation Fieldbus communica-tions protocol is an industry proveninternational standard (IEC 61158)designed for use in the processindustry. Features include multi- drop capabilities (as many as 32devices per segment), extendedtrunk length, single loop integrity,“control in the field”, power andcommunications on a shieldedtwisted pair network, and compati- bility with intrinsically safe net-works. A key feature of the FF pro-tocol is the ability to select wherecontrol of the process is situated -in the host, in the field, or in vari- ous combinations of both locations.
