Specifications Universal Analog Inputs 1 (2 and 3optional) •Update rates: IN1 = 20Hz, IN2and IN3 = 10Hz •Type J, K, T, N, C (W5), E, Pt 2, D (W3), B, R, S Thermocouple RTD •2- or 3-wire platinum, 100 Ω •JIS or DIN-curves, 1.0 or 0.1indication•500 or 1K Ω RTD available Process •Input resolution ≈ 50,000 bits atfull scale•Range selectable: 0-10V Î Control Outputs Heat/cool or reverse/direct action issupported. Time based outputs canbe configured for variable burst fire ora cycle time can be selected. On-offboost heat or boost cool operation isalso supported. Boost operation isenabled based on load powerrequirements. Two alarms are included in the baseunit. These alarms are programmableas process, deviation or rate. Alarms Both EIA-232 and EIA-485communications are included in thebase unit. The SERIES F4P operates via the Modbus™ RTU protocol. The F4P responds to requests forinformation only when queried. Baudrate selections are 9600 or 19200. Serial Communications Up to two optional programmablevoltage or current signal retransmitoutputs are supported. Retransmitsources include up to three processvariables, set point and outputpercent power. Retransmit Enhanced Control Operation When the enhanced operation optionis ordered, the F4P process controlleris supplied with two additionaluniversal analog inputs (inputs 2 and 3) and enhanced firmware to support numerous features that utilize the twoadditional inputs. The enhancedcontrol option can be configured tosupport cascade control, differentialcontrol, ratio control and slidewirevalve control. The enhanced controloption can also alternate betweencontrol inputs, display up to threeprocess variables and supportremote set point operation. In this sample application the SERIESF4P process controller utilizes theenhanced cascade control feature toheat lube oil to 51.6ËšC (125ËšF).Cascade control is a control strategy in which one control loop provides the set point for another loop. It allowsthe process or part temperature to bereached quickly while minimizing overshoot. Cascade is used to optimize the performance of thermal systems with long lag times. Input 3measures the lube oil temperaturebefore it leaves the tank. Input 1measures the heater temperature. The input 3 process value is compared to the set point which generates and internal set point usedto control the heater.

SERIES F4P

General Purpose Control Operation The SERIES F4P temperatureprocess controller is a single channel PID controller that supports either closed or open loop operation. The design utilizes the latest technology to provide a controller capable to meeting very complex processing needs while maintaining an easily understood operator interface.Full non-abbreviated parameterchoices are displayed using a fourline liquid crystal display. The display is back lit for wide angle viewing. The firmware guides the operator throughparameter choices for featureconfiguration. An information key (I)provides the operator with detailedhelp information regarding theparameter or feature beingconfigured. The main page menu canbe programmed to display outputpower through 16 control variables including: bar graphs, set points andoperating ranges. Up to fourprogrammable messages can beactivated remotely to let the operatorknow that the process requires theirattention.Five sets of PID values can be auto-tuned to support varying systemreaction over the complete operatingrange. Up to 10 offset points can programmed to compensate for differences between the actualprocess value and sensor readingscaused by sensor placement. These four inputs are programmableand can be used to remotely modify the operation of the controller as well as displaying pre-programmed messages on the operations display. Digital Inputs Up to three universal analog inputsare supported. These inputs are configured through software to support thermocouples, RTDs and process (voltage/current) sensors. Auxiliary inputs 2 and 3 can function as a remote set point input, sources for retransmission or as the outer loop for cascade operation. Control Inputs (dc),0-5V Î (dc), 1-5V Î (dc), 0-50mV, 0-20mA, 4-20mA•Voltage input impedance 20K Ω •Current input impedance 100 Ω Digital Inputs (4) Î (dc)max•10K •Update rate = 10Hz •Contact or dc voltage; 36V Open Collector/Switched dc •Update rate = 20Hz •Internal load switching (nominal):Switched dc, 22 to 28V Ω input impedance Control Outputs (1A, 1B) Î (dc),limited @ 30mA•External load switching max.:Open collector 42V •Zero switched, optically coupled,0.5A @ 24V Î (dc) @ 0.5A Solid-state Relay Å (ac)minimum, 253V Å (ac) max. 46
