Dual Containment - 1

DUAL CONTAINMENT An outer magnet assembly driven by the motor rotates, and in turn causes an inner magnet assembly housed within a hermetically sealed canister to turn, driving the pump shaft. A unique dual containment canister (patent pending) to further reduce the chance of canister failure and leakage. • A double-walled canister creates a fluid path leading to a sensor port to enable detection of canister wall permeation. • Sensor selection and alarm or shutdown control is the responsibility of the end user to best match the liquid and application. Possible sensor types include pressure, conductivity or optical refraction. Universal Mag Drive Internal Gear Pump Why Mag Drive: • Prevent hazardous liquid or vapor release through the seal gland, enhancing employee safety. • Dual containment is available on Viking UMD series magnetically coupled internal gear pumps. • Prevent extended seal leakage in remote unmonitored pumps to minimize chances of release to the environment. • Eliminate air infiltration through seal to protect air or water-sensitive liquids, especially in low NPSH-available systems. SENSOR PORT CANISTER OUTER WALL CANISTER INNER WALL • Eliminate coking or crystallization at seal faces. • Environmental regulations encourage the use of sealless pumps on volatile organic chemicals. The Problem: Shaft seals are the most common cause of rotary pump failure, so magnetic couplings (mag drives) are used to eliminate the need for shaft seals. No pump is completely leakproof, however, and there have been instances of mag drive pump failure where the containment canister has been compromised. Visit vikingpump.com for more information.
