Expansion joints are only required for LSV and LSVG systems using bolted joints. They serve to compensate for the different expansion and contraction of the aluminium housing and the copper conductors in varying temperatures. (Plug-in type connectors manufacturer, sliding inside the hollow conductors do automatically take care of this - with the copper conductors being anchored in each standard Powerail section). Expansion joints are required if the Powerail length between two anchor points (feeds, sectionalizings and transfer guides are such anchor points and factory assembled extra anchor points FPL/Cu and FPLG/Cu are available) exceeds L/6 per Fig. 1 and 2. Corresponding to an anticipated temperature difference (At) the maximum length L would be as follows:

No extra feeds required as the Powerail is not interrupted.
Collectors
No extra collectors required. Installation
The expansion joint integrated in the one meter powerail sec­tion is installed on sliding hangers in the center between two anchor points of the copper conductors. The gap dimension "a" is factory set to 30 mm, suited for a temperature of +5° C up to +30° C during installation.
