9 2. Configurations of assembly The B, S, A, AP and K stopfor models should only be assembled on a vertically suspended anchor line or where the maximum angle with the vertical is only 30°. In actual practice, the user shall respect this condition by not moving away from the suspension point’s vertical by a distance greater than half the height from the suspension point to the level of his plane of movement. • For example, the user climbs up vertically (0° +/- 30° in relation to the vertical) onto a metal structure. When the anchor line is positioned in front of him, the user is linked to the stopfor by a 0.3 m, 0.6 m or 0.9 m lanyard, depending on the type of stopfor used (fig. B, last page). For this configuration, use B, K, S, A, P or AP stopfor models. • When the anchor line is positioned behind or facing the user, he is linked to the stopfor by a 0.3 m, 0.6 m or 0.9 m lanyard (depending on the type of stopfor used. Fig.C). The B, K, S, A, P or AP stopfor models are to be used. • When the user climbs up a ladder, the anchor line is placed behind or facing him and he is linked to the stopfor by a 0.3 m, 0.6 m or 0.9 m lanyard (depending on the type of stopfor used. Fig.D). The B, K, S, A, P or AP stopfor models are to be used. 3. Configurations of assembly with the AP stopfor • The anchor line is vertical (0° to 30° in relation to the vertical). Once the parking brake has been activated, the user can work suspended. The stopfor retains the user and ensures its role as fall arrester (Fig. E). 4.Clearance (Fig.A last page) The clearance must be at least equal to the height of the fall L= L1( lanyard length: 0.3 m, 0.6 m or 0.9 m) + L2 (braking distance 1m) +L3 (lanyard length: 0.3, 0.6 or 0.9 m) + 1 m for safety. 5. Operating environment • Conditions found on open air sites • Temperatures ranging between -40°C and +60°C [-40°F and +140°F] • Marine environment conditions • For any work involving product-ejection (painting, sandblasting, etc.), it is essential to protect the device against any such product penetrating inside the stopfor. 6. Rescue operations A study must be carried out before use in order to define the emergency operations to be implemented and the human resources and equipment required for rescuing an injured person within 15 minutes in the event of a fall controlled by the stopfor. Any period longer than this will endanger the life of the person. To be verified: • that neither the casing nor the flanges are deformed; • the visual state of the anchor line and the lanyard; • the blocking efficiency of the stopfor fitted onto the anchor line: tug sharply on the device in the opposite direction to that indicated by the arrow on the casing; • the loosening of the jaw and the movement of the stopfor on the anchor line by pivoting the lever upwards; Inspection before use WARNING No slack must be made on the anchor line between the anchoring point and the stopfor. It is thus essential to ensure that it is of sufficient length. WARNING The anchoring point must always be situated above the operator. • the system’s installation conditions (see “Installation” chapter); • the correct orientation of the stopfor on the anchor line; • the state of the harness and connectors’ associated components. The user links up the stopfor to his harness by way of the lanyard (L). He then installs the stopfor on the anchor line (C). After which, the following procedure must be adopted: (for the A, S and AP stopfor) • open the device by pressing on the bolt to unlock with the left hand and by unscrewing the knurled knob with the right hand; • the stopfor must be positioned on the anchor line so that the arrow is pointing upwards and the device locked. Should the arrow be pointing down, the guide pin will prevent the device from closing; • insert the anchor line into the casing, then close and screw the knurled knob tightly. The stopfor will automatically stop a fall in such an event. (for the K stopfor / B stopfor) • open the device by turning the mobile flange; • tilt the shaft by using the pin to free the anchor line’s passage; • insert the anchor line between the clamping axis and the shaft; • close the mobile flange up to the clamping axis buffer; • insert the M10 connector into the holes of BOTH the fixed and mobile flanges to lock the device; • the stopfor must be positioned on the anchor line so that the arrow is pointing upwards and the device locked. The stopfor will automatically stop a fall in such an event. The stopfor, together with the lanyard and the anchor line, must be stored in a dry place (i.e. free from dampness) and at a temperature ranging between -40°C and +60°C [-40°F and +140°F]. Regular maintenance must be carried out by the user. Besides the verifications specified in the “Inspections before use” chapter, the following maintenance should be carried out: • Should the anchor line become dirty, it must be washed in clean cold water using a synthetic-fibre brush and, if necessary, a washing product for delicate fabrics. • When the anchor line becomes wet during use or washing, it must be left to dry naturally in the shade and away from any source of heat. • Prior to every use, visually inspect the anchor line along its entire length. • Serious non visible damage can affect the resistance of the anchor line. TRACTEL recommends, therefore, not to allow use of the anchor line unless under the control of a person responsible for the equipment. • All acids, oils and petrol coming into contact with the anchor line shall affect its resistance. Such products are liable to "attack" the polyamide fibres of the anchor line, and any subsequent damage to the fibres may not always be visible with the naked eye. • The anchor line should not be exposed unnecessarily to the sun, and should be stored in the shade away from damp. • Any friction of the anchor line with sharp edges or rough surfaces is to be avoided. • The anchor line should be kept in a sack for its protection and during transport.
