Product Brief LCD Controller and Display Buffer Solutions Highlights • The Toshiba LCD controller and buffer ICs dramatically increase data traffic (e.g. up to 1 Gbps) between baseband and I/O devices, simplify electrical and mechanical design with higher reliability, and enable support for dual- LCD displays. • Solutions are based on industry standards, such as the Mobile Display Digital Interface (MDDI) and the Mobile Industry Processor Interface (MIPI). Description Mobile phone services and phone features require bigger and better LCDs. The specifications for VGA and higher resolution LCDs require wider color depth and higher data traffic. Total power consumption for such a display system could be significant. Toshiba display controllers and buffer ICs are built around industry standards such as MDDI or MIPI. These devices offer the following benefits, while delivering the scalability to accommodate higher resolution (VGA) displays. • Performance improvement – Support for higher data traffic (up to 1 Gbps) – Support for higher refresh rate (up to 60 fps) – Support for dual LCDs LCD Controller and Display Buffer Solutions 1 • System power reduction • Interface adaptability (parallel or serial) Toshiba’s high-speed display controller and buffer solutions comprise the following products: • MDDI LCD controller • MIPI LCD controller Toshiba MDDI LCD Controller Designated the TC358720XBG, this product is optimized for mobile phones using MDDI high-speed serial digital packet host interface and high-resolution LCD panel(s) (applicable to systems using Qualcomm’s MSM™ baseband processor family). The serial data interface supports throughputs of up to 400 Mbps by using two, low-voltage differential signal pairs. Due to the combination of LVDS technology and on-chip eDRAM memory buffer, the TC358720XBG supports a VGAwww.
