Polarization ToolsTools of the trade - Vol 18 - 36188 PMD / PDLMeasurement Systems...Page 2 of 4Polarization Measurement&Control General PMD MeasurementsPMD/PDLMeasurements PMD Measurements on Narrow Bandwidth Components PMD5000FINThePMD5000FIN is recommended for general polarization modedispersion measurements. Especially PMD and PDL analysis of fibers and broadband components can be performed with this model. This includes the PMD measurement of passive components (couplers, isolators) and active components (EDFAs and PDFAs). Narrow bandwidth components such as optical filters, Bragg gratings, andOADM, are considerably more challenging to characterize. For narrow bandcomponent manufacturing it is important to assess the PDL in the “wings” of the pass-band (typically around 20dB) to determine if the component meets the isolation requirement between adjacent channels. The PMD5000HDR facilitates this assessment and can increase productionyield. A main advantage of this system is the high dynamic power range ofthe polarimeter. This affords an optimal characterization of the edges of the narrow bandwidth element.Polarization â– DGD Meter with a Range of 0.001ps to 400ps Accessories â– Repeatability: 1 <0.01ps â– Maximum Insertion Loss of DUT: 2 30dB â– Typical Measurement Time for 1 (100) DataPoints: 0.5s (50s) â– Jones Matrix PMD Measurement Method â– Ideal for PMD & PDL on Optical Fiber â– Includes a Deterministic Polarization Controller DPC5500 & Fast In-Line Polarimeter IPM5300 â– Integrated Tunable Laser Source ECL5000D (PMD5000FIN-1) 1) For PMD <0.3ps2) At Input Power ≥ 1mW PMD5000HDRâ– DGD Meter with a Range of 0.001ps to 400psâ– Repeatability: 1 <0.01ps â– Maximum Insertion Loss of DUT: 2 60dB â– Typical Measurement Time:1 Data Point in SYSTEM CONFIGURATIONS - SEE PAGE 817Thorlabs is recognized throughout the photonics community forproviding novel polarization measurement and control solutions.
