SELECTING O
NEW OPTICAL TABLES
Selecting the proper optical table for your application is important. Let these guidelines assist you in making a proper selection.

© Choose table size
Optical tables are offered in an array of sizes, both imperial and metric, to meet many application needs. The sizes range fromlm x 2m (3.3 ft x 6 ft) to 1.5m x 4.25m (5ft x 14 ft). Custom sizes and joined configurations can also be manufactured to meet your needs. © Determine performance requirements Thorlabs offers three series of optical tables to meet virtually all requirements. Performance™ tables are unmatched in value, with a single steel core and broadband damping, this series offers better dynamic rigidity and stiffness than other cost-competitive tables. These optical tables are an excellent choice for general purpose applications. StableTop™ 350 tables are all-around
laboratory tables that meet the needs of most optical applications. They feature a triple-skin design, double honeycomb structure, sealed holes and both tuned and broadband damping. This additional damping enables these tables to outperform the best tables yet they are at a more reasonable price. StableTop™ 450 tables provide the ultimate performance available. The triple-plate, double honeycomb core and unique combination of tuned and broadband damping provide the highest dynamic stiffness. Unsurpassed surface flatness enables firm and secure experimentation. The StableTop™ 450 is the ultimate table for the most demanding research applications. © Determine table thickness and height Each table series is offered in two imperial
and two metric thicknesses, 210mm (8.3 in.) and 310mm (12.2 in.). The thicker tables are stiffer, yielding a higher resonant frequency, which leads to lower relative table motion. When considering the table height, Thorlabs offers three isolation support options, rigid, passive and active. Each series offers two heights, 600mm (24") and 700mm (28"). The working tabletop height is the support height plus the table thickness. © Add desired options (for custom tables) Thorlabs offers several standard options including laser ports, mounting for accessory shelves, black finish, and double density hole grid. Custom cutouts and hole patterns are easily accommodated. Ask a Thorlabs engineer about custom options.
