1989 - Thorlabs, Inc., is aleading manufacturer of the building blocks for laser and fiber optic systems, which began as a “basement” business in 1989. With 3,000 sq. ft. of space and a small machine shop, Thorlabs embarked on an exponential growth period that continues today.

1993 -- During the courseof 1993, 3,000 sq. ft. became 12,000, and 3 employees grewto 25, as the company became acompetitive force in the industry. By 1994, the Thorlabs catalog, which began as a 4 page flyer, was a 65 page catalog full ofproduct to serve the needs of theburgeoning photonics industry.

1995 - The company moves intoits current U.S. site in Andover Township, NJ in late 1995.It comprises 40,000 sq. feet ofoffice and manufacturing space.

1997 - Thorlabs, Europe isestablished near Frankfurt as theEuropean regional sales office. 2002 - Thorlabs, Japan isestablished in Tokyo to servethe Asian market.

Japan

2003 - Thorlabs, Inc. acquiresTektronix Munich GmbH, theformer Profile Optische SystemeGmbH in March. Profile is known for advanced test and measurement, polarization and PMD instrumentation. 2004 - Thorlabs acquiresRadians Innova, AB in GöteborgSweden in January. This groupmanufactures technology leading tunable lasers. April 2004 - Thorlabs acquiresfrom Melles Griot Inc. extensive engineering and manufacturingcapabilities for optical tables andworkstations, and nano- positioning systems.
