This series of TravelMax stages has all the same features as the LNR50M described on the previous page - with the additional benefit that they include piezoelectric actuators. Our piezoelectric actuators are designed as a drop in replacement for the static pin that provides the stop for the main driving element of the stage. The three piezoelectric assisted stages offered from stock provide 20nm - 100nm resolution with 20|um, 40iim, and 100iim travel ranges. If hysteresis, creep, or thermal drift - present in all piezoelectric transducers

is a possible problem in your application, please consider using a piezoelectric actuator model that includes a strain gauge based displacement sensor. Our

model LNR50MP40S TravelMax™ stage includes a 40um piezoelectric

actuator that is placed in series with a manual micrometer drive. Additionally, the piezoelectric element is outfitted with a strain gauge displacement sensor.

Utilizing a balanced bridge circuit along with the strain gauge, the

piezoelectric actuator can be operated utilizing a closed-loop controller that

provides a positional resolution of 10nm. Hysteresis and any form of

mechanical creep or drift can be monitored and corrected for via this sensor.

Combining our TravelMax stages outfitted with closed-loop piezo actuators

with our apt series piezo controllers (see the side bar on the right), provides

for a noise floor limited resolution of 10nm for a 40um actuator. Our APT systems can also self-calibrate to provide highly linear full range scans ±0.5%, versus 15% which is typical of open loop piezo actuators.

Our new apt series piezoelectric controllers are able to utilize the optional strain gage that is incorporated into the piezoelectric actuators with displacement sensor (shown left) translation stage detailed on this page. The strain gauge provides a signal that is proportional to the displacement of the

piezoelectric element thus allowing the controller to correct for the inherent

non-linear response of piezoelectric actuators. Additionally, the apt piezoelectric controller provides a full PID servo loop that eliminates long term drift due to "piezo creep". This instrument incorporates the latest high­speed digital signal processing, low-noise analog electronics, and ActiveX®

software technology to provide an advanced instrument with a user friendly interface.
