ANGULAR ORIENTATION

Thompson have developed an electronic-basedpositioning system to work with every machine in its range to achieve accurately orientated products. Using modern DC motors, encoders and computerisedcontrols, the positioning system enables two component parts to be friction welded in a precise angular relationship to each other by accurately stopping the rotating spindle in the correct angular position. The braking process is electronically controlled in accordance with a pre-defined braking curve. When many parts are friction welded on the samemachine, angular position programs may be stored in the computer control system and recalled as each batch is prepared for production.
