In order to provide reliable temperature measurement it is essential that the thermocouple’s hot junction be formed in the correct manner by fusing the two legs of dissimilar material into an homogenous junction. There are several ways in which this can be achieved, but for simplicity, speed of operation and overall cost the SR Series of suppliers of welding machines provides the ideal solution. The operation of the welding machine is based upon capacitance discharge, operating from a mains supply and the units are supplied in either a bench mounting or portable configura-tion.The SR-48 incorporates fascia mounted indicators and controls. These consist of a ‘main supply on’ LED, horizontal meter showing ‘% of maximum charge’, a weld switch for activat-ing the weld and a potentiometer for setting the discharge energy level. Standard accessories which are supplied with the SR-48 include pliers, electrodes, spare carbon electrodes, Allen key, magnifying glass, mains power lead and a viewing filter. Other optional accessories such as a foot switch (which allows the freedom of both hands) are also available on application.
