AUTOMATED SOFTENING POINT TESTER Model ASP-5 ASP-5 automates the softening point test by Ring-and-Ball method for bitumen and similar substances, prescribed in ASTM D36. A photo-electric device with wide light beam is employed to assure a reliable automatic detection of softening point. EASY OPERATION: Just set up the specimen, determine the bath liquid type�C and press the START key; all the rest of the test procedures such as heating, softening point detection, and heater cooling are performed automatically. EXACT TEMPERATURE RISE CONTROL: Exact temperature rise rate can be attained not only with water bath but also with glycerin bath by the precise heater control. RELIABLE FALLING BALL DETECTION: Thanks to the wide light projector and wide light receiver, the ASP-5 detects the falling ball even if the ball falls with some angle. SAFETY MECHANISM: Generation of harmful vapor from overheated glycerin is prevented by the safety shutdown. CALIBRATION CAPABILITY: By simply setting a traceable thermometer right next to the PT-100 temperature sensor and running a test to record and compare the two temperature readings, user can easily carry out a traceable temperature calibration. DATA HANDLING: The unit is equipped to store up to 20 successive test results and export to an optional printer or to a LIMS through an RS232 port. COMPACT DESIGN: The test head unit can be stacked on the control unit and is also small enough (only 23cm in width) to be operated inside of a fume hood.
