As cars, trucks, aircraft, and other machines become more complex, and their engineers cram more and more parts into the given space, the fasteners become harder and harder to reach. One of Stanley Proto's responses has been an expanded line of Deep Thin Wall Impact Sockets. These are 2-1/2 to 3-in. long with thinner walls, which means they can be slipped into awkward or tight spaces. This feature makes them ideal for hard-to-reach fasteners that require low impact force.
Anyone who uses an impact wrench will need an impact socket. Proto® has created a line of impact sockets that's broad enough to satisfy any user, from those doing small precision assemblies, to the people who maintain the heavy equipment used in the oil, gas, mining, and utility industries.
Our sockets' drive sizes range from 1/4 to 2-1/2 in., with openings from 3/16 in. to 8 in. while metric sizes are available from 4 mm to 65 mm. Proto also offers several different drive styles from 4, 6, 8, or 12 point, standard length or deep, to surface drive and magnetic.
All Proto® impact sockets incorporate the TorquePlus™ wrenching system. The TorquePlus™ design is a high performance drive configuration which allows for quick and easy socket engagement to the fastener flats, notthe corners. The configuration employs a radius-corner design, shifting contact area and stresses over a large area of the socket, minimizing slippage. The internal design of the TorquePlus™ minimizes fastener rounding, helps to extend fastener life, and allows the user to more easily turn worn, rounded, or rusted fasteners.
Our most innovative new sockets were designed for automated assembly plants, and for workers that need to squeeze their tools into tight spaces. For instance, automated assembly plants will benefit from the unique "no-bushing" design we developed for the ProtoGrip™ Magnetic Socket. In the past, magnetic sockets used a bushing to hold the magnet in place, but by eliminating this bushing the ProtoGrip™ Magnetic Socket leaves room for more magnetic material, which of course means more magnetic strength. The magnetic material has also been upgraded to a rare earth/nylon blend. The added strength helps reduce or eliminate the possibility that the magnet will become separated from the socket during automated assembly operations, even when lifting heavy bolts or fasteners.
All Proto® impact sockets are made from special alloy steel, and are heat treated for the correct balance of strength and hardness, while the one-piece construction ensures their concentricity. Socket wall thickness is optimized to provide maximum strength and ample access to restricted fasteners. Sockets are manufactured to the most up to date industrial specifications, assuring concentric openings, large clearance holes, and tight nut end tolerance.
Over the years, access has become a growing challenge.
