The avail-ability of bearings with radial internal clearance smaller than Normal, C2, or greater than Normal, C3, should be checked before ordering.The clearance values for the metricbearings conform to ISO 12240-1:1998.

Permissible operating temperaturerange Steel-on steel spherical plain bearings can be used in the temperature range of –50 to +300 °C, but their load carry- ing capacity will be reduced at tempera- tures above +150 °C.For sealed bearings, the permissibleoperating temperature range is limited by the industrial seal material, for 2RS seals • –30 to +130 °C for polyester elasto-mer (metric bearings), and• –20 to +80 °C for polyurethane (inch-size bearings),for 2LSseals • –25 to +120 °C for metric bearings.The operating temperature range forthe actual grease used to lubricate the bearings must also be taken into con- sideration.

The inner and outer rings of SKF steel- on-steel radial spherical plain bearings are made of through-hardened steel, ground and phosphated. The sliding contact surfaces are treated with a running-in lubricant.The double-lip rubbing seals of met-ric bearings with designation suffix 2RS are made of polyester elastomer. Poly-urethane is used for the seals of the inch-size bearings.Bearings with designation suffix 2LShave a triple lip elastomer seal, with a steel backing, on each side of the bearing.
