Mounting

Spherical plain bearings

Fig 1 Fig 2

Skill and cleanliness when mountingare necessary if spherical plain bear- ings and rod ends are to perform cor- rectly and not fail prematurely. The bearings and rod ends shouldonly be taken from their packages im- mediately before mounting so that they do not become contaminated. Any components which have possibly be- come dirty as a result of improper hand- ling (damaged packaging etc.) should be wiped using a clean cloth. The sliding contact surfaces of thebearings are matched to provide fa- vourable friction and wear characteris-tics. Any alteration of the sliding sur- faces would shorten the service life, therefore, bearings must not be washed or come into contact with solv- ents, cleaners, oils or similar media. The components associated withthe bearings (housings, shafts or pins etc.) should be cleaned and any burrs removed. They should also be check- ed with regard to accuracy of dimen- sions and form before mounting is started.
