Fig 1 SKF standard bearings – benefits
âž” fig ) andthe roller ends are surface treated to
improve the effectiveness of the lubri-
cant, reduce friction and lower opera-
ting temperatures. The improved roller
end/flange contact results also in high-
eraxial load capability for those bear-
ings with flanges on inner and outer
rings. The optimal internal geometry provides• higher radial and axial load carryingcapacity, • higher operational reliability, • longer service life, • extended maintenance intervals, • lighter, more compact, energy-savingdesigns. The second improvement dealsspecifically with the roller end/flange
contact. The geometry of the flange
has an “opened” design ( >

ConventionaldesignEC design When an application calls for bearingsthat can accommodate heavy radial
loads, high speeds and axial displace-
ment of the shaft with respect to the
housing, SKF single row cylindrical
roller bearings are an obvious choice.
These bearings are always state-of-the-
artand they feature• an optimized cross section,• excellent contact conditions,
• interchangeability of bearing components• cages made of three different materials and• a wide product range. The result is an assortment of cylind-rical roller bearings that will provide
long servicelife even under the mostarduous operating conditions. >

enables manufacturers to downsizetheir designs so that they aremore
cost-effective, lighter and consume
less energy, without affecting perform-
ance. >
Interchangeability of bearing components Optimized cross section
Another advantage of SKF single rowcylindrical roller bearings is that the
bearing components are completely
interchangeable. Any bearing ring with
cage and roller assembly can be
assembled with any removable ring of
the same bearing type and size. This
is particulary important with bearing
components that have to be mounted
independently of each other. The cross section of SKF cylindrical
roller bearings is optimally utilized. The
diameter and length of the rollers and
the wall thickness of the rings and
retaining flanges have been optimized
to provide maximum bearing service
life ( >

The internal geometry of SKF singlerow cylindrical roller bearings is specialin two very significant ways.First is the “logarithmic contact pro-file” between the rollers and raceways
( âž” fig ). This profile provides opti-mal load distribution between the roll-
er and raceway, to significantly reduce
the risk of edge stresses and increase
operational reliability even in applica-
tions where there is misalignment and
shaft deflections. >
