Cylindrical roller bearings are producedin many designs, ISO Dimension Series
and sizes. The vast majority are single
row cylindrical roller bearings with a
cage. These bearings are an excellentchoicefor applications where there areparticularly heavy radial loads combined
with high speeds, especially if there is
a limited amount of axial displacement
of the shaft with respect to the hous-
ing as a result of thermal elongation.
As axial displacement takes place
within the bearing, there is practically
no increase in friction as the bearing
rotates.Single row cylindrical roller bearingsare separable, i.e. the ring with roller
and cage assembly can be mounted
independently of the other ring. This
simplifies installation, particularly if aninterference fit is required for both
rings. Single row cylindrical roller bearingswith a cage are produced in many de-
signs, differing primarily in the config-
uration of the flanges. The rollers are
always guided between integral flanges
on one of the rings. The ring with the
integral flanges together with the
cylindrical roller and cage assembly
can be withdrawn from the other ring.
The most popular single row cylindrical
roller bearings are those of the NU, N,
NJ and NUP designs. Accommodate heavy loads, highspeeds and axial displacements 1 NU design: Theouter ring has two
