Pressure on the annular piston ensures free move­ment ofthe rod by holding the clamping sleeve released against the force of Belleville springs. In the case ofintentional or unintentional pressure loss, the Belleville spring washers press the clamping sleeve into the taper ofthe housing, whereby an initial frictional forceis created between the rod and the clamping sleeve. When loadis applied, the clamping forceincreasesin a self-intensifying manner - the higherthe load the strongerthe clamping. Thus this type of device can, on the one hand, maintain high forces butis, on the other hand, not suitable for overloading andimpact forces.
