SCALANCE X-400 modular
The modular switches of the SCALANCE X-400 product line are Industrial Industrial ethernet switches, which are suitable for the configuration of linear, star and ring structures (10/100/1000 Mbit/s) for high-performance networks.
They permit the flexible configuration of optical or electrical networks, which can be adapted in terms of their topology, number of ports and port types to match the relevant network structures. In addition, they enable high network availability, as they offer ring redundancy in conjunction with a redundancy manager function, have a redundant power supply or permit the replacement and expansion of media modules when the system is running, for example.
The C-PLUG swap medium enables you to replace a device without using a programming device; the engineering/configuration and application data are stored on the C-PLUG and can be used with another SCALANCE X-400 switch without any special knowledge being required.
SCALANCE X-400 switches have a modular configuration; media modules and extender modules can be connected to the switch depending on the requirements. By means of these expansions, it is possible to obtain up to eight additional electrical and up to eight additional optical ports.
Gigabit connections can be configured between SCALANCE X-400 switches; twisted-pair nodes can be connected directly to the base device. Media modules provide optical connections.
SCALANCE X-400 switches are suitable for process control systems such as PCS7.
The following network topologies and combinations are possible:
■ Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet rings with rapid media redundancy; up to 50 linear cascaded X-400 switches can be switched together for a ring with a range of up to 150 km in multimode or up to 1,300 km in singlemode. In the event of failure of a transmission link or a
SCALANCE X-400 switch in a ring, the system reconfigures the transmission path within 0.3 seconds.
■ The ring structure on the SCALANCE X-400 can be simultaneously and redundantly linked to the enterprise network using a rapid spanning tree.
■ Star structure with SCALANCE X-400 switches: Each SCALANCE X-400 switch represents a neutral point, which can electrically or optically connect up to 26 nodes or subnets.
■ Simple connection of existing twisted-pairterminal devices or existing network segments up to 10/100 Mbit/s
