In practical use: powered by SICK The innovation of an innovation: MZ2Q-C with IO-Link

It always takes time for new technologies to progress from their first imple-mentation until establishment as an application standard. This was no differ-ent in the case of IO-Link. The situation is now fundamentally different due to cable compatibility with existing installations, the possible integration of non-IO-Link-enabled sensors manufacturers, and cost neutrality for sensors.

Open for progress: the MZ2Q C-Nut

MZ2Q C-Nut – the world’s first teachable cylinder sensor with two independent switching points – is now available in the popular IO-Link version.

Open for new possibilities

Visible comfort: precise adjustment via touch-screen

As the market leader in the area of contrast scanners, SICK offers the very compact KT3 in a version with an integrated IO-Link interface. In addition to parameterisation of the contrast scanner, all diagnosis and process logging can also be achieved via IO-Link. This offers us-ers new possibilities – advantages that are particularly beneficial for producers of packaging machines. The world’s first productive installation of IO-Link in the packaging industry shows that users have left the starting blocks. “We will support IO-Link in all our future machines” according to the end-user’s statement. In addition to the packaging sector, IO-Link is also helpful in handling and warehousing systems – as it is for the pharmaceutical industry (which is interested in the topic of ma- chine validation down to the sensor), and all other sectors in which plant or machine availability is important. One recognises the advantages of active sensors in machines, and profits from the increasing number of suitable sensors avail- able on the market. Here, SICK already of-fers a wide range of devices with IO-Link and integration tech-nologies – photoelec- tric proximity switches, automation light grids, magnetic cylinder sensors, IO-Link master connection modules and now also the MZ2Q C-Nut magnetic cylinder sensor and KT3 contrast scanner – not only guaranteeing users a high level of investment security, but also offering added machine value through cost- efficiency by using existing bus systems with the existing sensor connections. In increasingly globalised markets, SICK customers gain another important com- petitive advantage.

Never run dry

With the LFV, SICK is presenting a compact vibrating-fork level sensor at the Hanover Trade Fair 2008. The de-vice is suitable for detecting liquids in storage tanks manufacturer as well as in pipes. In addition to a design for process tech-nology, the LFV is also available as a hygiene-oriented variant for use in the food, beverages and pharmaceutical industries. Level detection is an im- portant safety feature for almost all storage tanks.
