INSTALLATION & OPERATION
used for a period of time. Shutting off when sampling is not required will avoid unnecessary industrial seal wear.
6.3.1-Pump Motor Interface. To avoid a biased composite due to sampling from standing product, try to mount the sampler where the line normally runs dry between loads.
Where no such area exists AND THE RECEIVING PUMP MOTOR IS SHUT OFF PROMPTLY AT THE CONCLUSION OF PUMPING A TANKER, run the electrical power for the sampler control from the pump motor switch. This ensures the sampler is turned off when the pump is not running.
Where sampler control is interlocked to an electric pump motor, sampler operation will start and stop with the pump. IF NOT INTERLOCKED, it is important that the sampler be started and stopped simultaneously with pump operation (sample only during milk flow).
6.3.2-Start-Stop Systems. When a suitable "dry" line is not available and pumps may remain running between loads, various automatic start-stop systems may be used to augment the manual start-stop switch, including:
Flow display System: System automatically starts and stops sampler operation in relation to flow or no-flow by sensing pump motor current draw. If not already included in the control being installed, the Flow Monitor System can in most instances be retrofit to existing controls upon return to the Factory. Consult Sentry Equipment for additional details.
Flowmeter Output: The Model DR Series Cycle Controls are designed to operate the sampler in direct proportion to the linear count output of a flow meter or other pulse generating device, and will provide sampler cycles in direct relation to flow rate.
Magnet Float switch or Micro-switch on Air Eliminators or Cock: Almost any action that automatically takes place immediately with the start and stop of milk flow can be adapted to turn power on/off to the sampler control.
Sanitary Pressure Switch: In some instances a sanitary pressure switch can be ferrule mounted onto a pump discharge line and set to turn "ON" as a pump picks up a head, "OFF" when pressure drops at the conclusion of pumping. Sampler control power is run through the switch. However, in many instances pressure switches suppliers have been found to be sensitive to excessive vibration, pulsation, or the loss of line back-pressure due to oversize lines or "siphoning."
6.3.3-DUAL CYCLE CONTROLS. If your sampler operating control is arranged for "dual cycle," it contains a small-load/large-load switch. See your SAMPLER CYCLE CONTROL BULLETIN for correct use of this Model control. For receiving dock operation with average large (6000 gallons) and small (2500 gallons) tankers.
