PHANTOM ® Communication Converter

Now you can connect your PHANTOM devices to a computer with a FireWire port

The PHANTOM Communication Converter (PCC) is a custom designed converter that provides FireWire® compatibility to SensAble PHANTOM parallel port devices. This converter includes active componentry that converts signals intended for parallel ports (EPP, IEEE-1284) to be sent and received to and from FireWire ports (IEEE-1394a) on a host computer. The PCC enables active bi-directional data exchange with regulated timing to preserve real-time interaction with the SensAble parallel port devices, running their servo loops at 1KHz. The converter’s on-board microprocessor provides framed isochronous packet mode communication. Currently supported on Windows® XP 32-bit and 64-bit. Included with the PHANTOM Communication Converter:

• CD-ROM containing the PHANTOM Device Driver • Two FireWire data cables: – 6-pin to 6-pin (connect PCC to a desktop computer) – 6-pin to 4-pin (connect PCC to a laptop computer) • Universal 12V DC power adapter kitThe standard FireWire port enables connectivity of the PCC to a computer. An additional FireWire port can be used to connect to additional devices with a FireWire interface. Selected quali ed parallel port device con gurations are illustrated below.
