ASi-SaW: integrating position switches in bus networks Machine manufacturer increasingly use safety- related bus systems to facilitate the connection and the installation and to save costs. The new position switches can also be integrated in these data bus networks: a version with inte- grated AS-Interface Safety at Work (AS-i SaW) interface is under preparation. Open to new ideas The variants presented in this brochure are only examples of the extension of the position switching program, which will be presented in the next months. Other equipment options, actuators suppliers, contact variants etc. can be realised as well: Schmersal always is open to the wishes of the user. And the new modular position switches offer the best opportunities for a quick and cost- effective development of customer-specific versions, which integrate the tried-and-tested components of the models from batch production.

Separate actuator: a safe solution A special module, which is fitted to the basic module, enables the insertion of a separate actuator. In the case of combination of a position switch with positiv-break contacts, the position switch can be used for instance as a protection switch with separate actuator for the position monitoring of safety guards. Explosion protection: a demanding field of application The requirements of explosion protection are applicable in many industries, e.g. chemical industry, but in many fields of food industry, wood-processing and the storage of (powdered) bulk products as well. The new position switches therefore will also be available in an Ex version, which is certified to the ATEX Directives. These Ex position switches are suitable for use in Ex Zone 2 (explosive at- mospheres due to the presence of gas) and Ex Zone 22 (explosive atmospheres due to the presence of dust).

A flexible principle With the new position switches, Schmersal presents a system with six series, which can be advantageously used in a wide range of applications. However impressive the currently available program might be, it is just the start. The modular structure enables adapting the position switches to a large variety of require- ments and surrounding conditions. In the next months, the program will be further extended by other actuators.
R R CC C R Indication by LED The LED integrated in the basic module si- gnals the switching condition. In this way, the operator knows whether the switch is opened or closed and whether he can open the safety guard monitored by the position switch without interrupting the process. Contacts: all good things come in threes All enclosure variants can be equipped with three contacts. This represents a considerable extension of the range of application compared to the current product program.
