One system - any application Upon the development of the new position switches, the Schmersal engineers had a system in mind, where one series could universally be used for any applications – and they succeeded in their intentions.
The new series cover all ranges of application: from po-
sition detection on machinery and plants through safety-re-
lated tasks on safety guards to the monitoring of elevators cabins and doors. Distinguishing look The unusual design of the position switches immediately catches the eye. It is clear that industrial designers had a finger in the pie here, not only to provide them with an interesting optical look, but to optimally adapt the switch’s design to its mission. Detecting and monitoring Detecting and monitoring are two common tasks in auto-
mated production, as well as in other fields, for instance in lift technology.
Position switches are frequently used to fulfil this task. The Schmersal Group now presents a technically and economically interesting alternative to the currently available position switches. Standard-compliant fitting The user can choose between a small and a large basic module, with metal or thermo-
plastic box. The mounting dimensions as well as the
actuators accord-
ing to DIN EN 50041 and DIN EN 50047 create opportunities for a universal application. In this way, the switches can be integrated in existing machine constructions or used for modernisation purposes. A safe principle If a switch insert with posi-
tive-break contacts is used, the new position switches can be used for safety-related tasks, for instance, for the position monitoring of safety guards. They also meet the lift technology requirements with regard to safety and contact break: the switches are com-pliant to EN 81. (Almost) Unlimited possibilities Besides different basic mod-
ules and actuators, a large range of switch inserts with different contact variants (slow action, snap action, latching, overlapping and staggered contacts) is available. The switches furthermore are available in two-pole and in the future in three-pole version as well. In this way, (almost) any imaginable application can be realised with one modular series. The new position switches therefore optimally adapt to the surrounding machine construction, amongst other things because of the remov-
able actuator heads being repositionable by 4 x 90°.
In other words, the user has a modular system at his dis-
posal, which he quickly can configure in accordance with his needs. This reduces the costs of storage and simplifies the ordering procedure – and the desired version is always available. >

Numerous combination possibilities The new generation of position switches has a completely modular structure: six different basic modules can be com-
bined with different actuating elements simply by bayonet fastening, no tools required! This feature reduces the costs of storage, both for the ma-
chine manufacturer and the end user. Modular diversity >

The range of application of position switches is extremely large and their users have different requirements as the enclosure, the switch inserts and the actuators are regarded. Despite that, the new series meets all the requirements, as the modular design of the switch enables the user com-
posing “his”
position switching. >
