Type of lubrication Slewing rings can be lubricated with grease or oil.The decisive factors in determining the appropriate type oflubrication and quantity of lubricant required are: Correct lubrication and regular maintenance are important preconditions for achieving a long operating life with slewing rings.The lubricant serves to: â–  form a lubricant film capable of supporting loads on all contact surfaces â–  the design and size of the bearing â–  the design of the bearing environment â–  industrial seal the bearing against external influences (in the case ofgrease lubrication) and thus prevent the ingress of solid and liquid contaminants â–  the lubricant feed â–  the operating conditions. â–  reduce the running noise Lubrication of the gear teeth â–  protect the bearing against corrosion The points stated above apply to the gear teeth of slewing rings.The lubricant used should have good adhesion. Suitable lubricants are given in Table3, page32. â–  dissipate heat from rolling bearing subjected to heavy loads (in the case of oil lubrication). 26
