3. Mounting the chuck on the machine spindle

1.Mounting the chuck on the machine spindle 1.1Check the concentricity and axial run-out of the ma-chine spindle nose or the completed flange forchucks on the machine (DIN 6386 part 1 and ISO3089 = 0.005 mm).1.2The flange must be configured so the chuck can re-liably make contact with the screw–on surface. Thescrew–on surface must be absolutely flat.1.3Place the chuck on the flange and attach it, tighteningthe bolts diagonally across. (Piston must be in themost forward position.)1.4Check the attached chuck for concentricity and axialrun-out at the checking edge.1.5Move the piston of the clamping cylinder to the mostforward position. 1.6Screw the two–hole nut onto the tension tube untilthe nut is in contact with the chuck piston. Continuescrewing on the nut until the chuck piston has movedby 1 mm. This means forward contact is sure to takeplace in the cylinder.1.7Exert a low level of clamping pressure to move thepiston into the back position.1.8Screw in the threaded ring and lock it with the two–hole nut. Then tighten the set screw.1.9Check the jaw stroke, function and the level of theactuation force. The chuck is removed by workingthrough these steps in reverse order. Removing thechuck is carried out in the reverse order.

4. Maintenance

1.The high quality and reliablefunction of the chuck can bemaintained by regular lubrica-tion. Grease nipples are provi-ded for this purpose.2.Use a grease gun to press a few strokes of greasethrough the grease nipples into the clamping pins. Operate the piston through its full stroke several ti-mes when doing this. Only use acid–free, non-gum-ming grease.3.The chuck should be lubricated once a week. 4.Function test “clamping force”: Jaws must still move at a smallest possible operatingpressure of approx. 3-4 bar. As this is not an exactmethod it is the best to measure the clamping forcewith a load-sensing device. If clamping force dropped too much or the chuck can-not be moved perfectly it has to be disassembled, cleaned and relubricated. We recommend our special grease F 80.Disassemble the chuck and clean all parts every 2000-3000 hours of operation.

5. Dismantling and assembling the chuck6. Spare parts

1.Unscrew the key from the sliding sleeve.2.Pull the sliding sleeve out to the front together withthe clamping pins. 3.The chuck is assembled by working through thesesteps in reverse order. Clean, check an thoroughly coat all parts withRöhm grease F 80. When ordering spare parts, please quote theIdent. No. of the chuck and the item number ordesignation of the desired part. The Ident. No. willbe found on the face of the chuck.
