Adhesive application systems are often part of a complex production line conssting of nume­rous equipment components. Integrating all these indi v dual components into one common control system is a prerequiste for sophistica­ted automation and production control capabi­lities. An open, standardized interface is re­quired to guarantee trouble-free communica­tion between all appliances and the central control.

To provde maximum flexibility, two interna­tionally recognised standards are now availa­ble for all Robatech hotmelt application systems featuring ICS electronics:

the leading open field bus system in Europe according to EN 50170

the international, open field bus system according to ISO 11898/11519-2

Both PROF BUS-DP and CANBUS are standard­ized, open communications interfaces. There­fore, they do not require a specific supplier's product, which allows the user to choose what is most suitable for his particular application. A variety of software and hardware is availa­ble to allow the Robatech hot melt application system to be easly integrated into the produc­tion line's central control system. There are many benefits to central control systems. Communicating with the adhesive application system allows central monitoring and control. When changing production orders it is possble to store and retrieve all appropri­ate data records from the central control system. Collecting and analyzing operator entries and machine events helps optimize productivity.

Central monitoring and control also increases plant efficency and safety. It is becoming in­creasingly important with today's complex processes and systems, which many times uti­lize a minimum of personnel.
