www.rdpe.com Short Stroke LVDT’sDisplacement/Position Transducers

Welcome to RDP’s short-form listing of itscomprehensive range of displacement transducer products.

D5 Submersible Miniature short stroke LVDTs

Suitable for use in very wet environments or withappropriate connections, completely submerged to a depth of up to 50 metres of fresh water. Ranges from 2 mm to 25 mm full stroke are available as ‘free armature ’ or ‘spring actuated ’ armature types. Fully sealed/welded, stainless steel construction throughout. In these pages you will find a huge range of devices - mostly based on inductivesensing principles - but complemented by the original MTS leading range of magnetostrictive displacement transducers, plus some non-contact capacitive based and resistive draw-wire types. It is the objective of this brochure to provide engineers with a concise product listingincluding sufficient specification data to make a quick selection of the device most suitable for an application. This brochure is backed up by full comprehensive specification details that are available online from our website www.rdpe.com or can be accessed on our CD. After 40 years in business, RDP Electronics Ltd is particularly proud to have becomea leading manufacturer of LVDT based, displacement products. Although this principle has been around for almost 100 years, there has been continuous improvement and refinement during that time. What we have today is the most reliable and cost effective solution available, capable of operation in normal industrial and scientific applications as well as in hostile conditions such as cryogenic, high temperature, high pressure, submersible and high vibration environments. The applications for LVDT based displacement transducers, in particular, seem to beinexhaustible and there can hardly be any field of human endeavour that has not made use of this device over its lifetime. But here are a few examples:-
Linearity0.25%, 0.5% (0.1% some ranges) Repeatability1 micron Resolutionessentially infinite Diameter8.0 mm and 9.5 mm Applications:- submerged testing of movement, structuraltesting, general research.

GT Precision Gauging Transducers

These are LVDT based transducers designed specifically forthe ‘Gauging’ industry. Particular attention is given to very precise repeatability and stability by the use of Swiss quality linear ball bearings and high quality materials throughout. They cover ranges from 1 mm to 10 mm total stroke. Linearity0.25%, or 0.1% on some ranges Repeatabilitytypically 0.15 microns Resolutionessentially infinite Diameter8.0 mm Applications: Precision gauging of machined parts, on linemeasurement etc. • Aerospace • Agriculture • Automotive • Botany

DCTH Miniature short stroke displacementtransducers

• Biology • Chemical industry
These transducers are based on the LVDT principle buthave integrated electronics thus providing a DC - DC capability. They operate from dual or single DC supplies and provide a +_ 5 volt, or 0 to 10 volts output, making themsimple to utilise in most applications. They are available in ‘free armature ’ or ‘spring actuated ’ armature versions. • Civil/Structural engineering • General manufacturing • Hydraulic actuatorsIndustrial control systemsIndustrial instrumentation

Diameter20.6 mm with 9.5 mm front end. • Materials testing

D5 and D6 Miniature short stroke LVDTs

Applications:- as for D5/D6 where DC - DC is preferable. These transducers can be used in many gauging applications but are also suitable for a much wider range of applications for measurement or control of small displacements. They can be supplied with ‘free armature’ or spring extend/retract captive armature and are available for displacements of 0.5 mm to 25 mm total stroke. They utilise a simple ‘filled PTFE’ dry sleeve bearing which is more suitable than the ball race for many applications, which involve difficult environments. • Power generation • Offshore oil exploration and production • Shipping • Research and development • Transport • Nuclear research • Utilities • Weighing
Linearity0.1%, 0.25% and 0.5% • Geo-physics
Repeatability0.5 microns Resolutionessentially infinite Diameter8.0 mm or 9.5 mm Applications: some gauging, research (e.g. creep testing),general measurement, special machines.
