Prysmian designs and produces itsown compounds customized for specific customer needs. We can tailor compounds and process technologies to optimize and match cable performances and cost target, as indicated by our customer. This flexibility in material and process design comes from a wide range of thermoplastic, fluorinated as well as cross linked compounds, and relies on continuous improvement of all major technologies, including e-beam cross-linking. In all Prysmian factories, our cables are designed, engineered and manufactured with the most advanced material and technologies from Prysmian laboratories. Prysmian fire retardant and LowSmoke Zero Halogen (LSOH) compounds improve safety, and reduce harness disposal cost. In a vehicle, fire can accidentally light up, but when exposed to fire LSOH cables prevent fire to propagate, with very low smoke and low toxic gas emission improving overall safety level. Prysmian compounds, besides avoiding harmful and corrosive emissions, they are environmental friendly and can be processed during harness disposal using cheaper smoke abatement equipment. Prysmian has lead the development and has been producing LSOH compounds for over twenty years achieving extremely good cables fire performances by a continuous optimization of material and through an extensive fire testing with feedback to design. Prysmian contributes to costreduction of wire assembly and installation through outstanding flexibility performances. Battery cables are a good example of the improvement in flexibility we can guarantee even on large cable sections through special conductor and compounds design. Smooth bending and low spring back properties make handling during installation easy and reduce cable pressure against any surface at the bend, where the cable is exposed to abrasion due to engine vibrations.
