FRAME 7EA STAGE ONE BLADE Pratt & Whitney - Improved Design - Extending the Service Life of Your Parts Pratt & Whitney Power Systems (PWPS) offers 1st stage turbine buckets for use in Frame 7B through 7EA gas turbines. The Pratt & Whitney buckets are designed to offer enhanced durability and extended part life at a competitive price. Pratt & Whitney is so confident in the superior attributes of our parts that the parts are offered with an unparalleled guarantee for the life cycle of the part. The PWPS 7EA bucket is made of PWA 1432™ equiaxed, nickel base superalloy, which greatly enhances the life of the part. Parts are coated with PWA 264™ which provides superior oxidation resistance and enhanced temperature capability through improvements in normal mechanical fatigue life. High temperature performance up to 2055 is achieved with the application of a world class P&W low pressure plasma spray (LPPS) metallic bond coating and thermal barrier coating (TBC). Platform Cracking Solution Platform cracking is a phenomenon commonly experienced in 7EA gas turbines operated in peaking cycle mode. Cracks start at the edge of the platform and, in extreme cases, propagate to the fillet. Many operators report cracks after 300 to 500 starts and have replaced otherwise reparable, 1st stage buckets due solely to platform cracks. Other manufacturers have developed solutions that may merely delay cracking. In addition, many of these solutions increase the cooling flow, ultimately degrading engine performance. The Pratt & Whitney design, based on rigorous finite element analysis, eliminates the cracking problem without changes to the cooling flow. Pratt & Whitney also offers the platform cracking solution as a retrofit for existing parts.
