A medical precision hand tool manufacturer chose to use a 12.7mm (0.5 in.) Portescap brushless DC motor in their surgical ear, nose and throat hand tool, known as a microdebrider device, because of the motor's unique capability to enhance the surgeon's comfort by reducing the hand tool size, weight, vibration and external temperature A medical pump manufacturer had an application that needed to operate smoothly, without resonance, over the entire speed range (1 to 1,000 RPM). A hybrid stepper running rough would cause the incorrect amount of medicine to be dispensed. Many hybrids were tested, but the h3 stepper provided smooth operation over the entire speed range, a minimal resonance band and high output torque. Now the medicine dispensing speed can be varied as designed, without need to compensate for motor roughness. Pumps deliver drugs, food or local anesthetics to patients requiring intensive care.
