What will happen if an unopened bottle of TETRA-ETCH® etchant is inadvertently left in a warm place? A. Pressure will build up in the bottle due to expansion of solvent vapour. Before opening the bottle, make a pinhole in the lid to relieve the pressure or chill the bottle in a refrigerator before opening. If the temperature exceeds 38°C, there...

What is the shelf life if stored in a freezer at -40°C unopened? A. 1-11/2years. We guarantee a 6-month life when stored unopened at 0°C or below. Q. What is the safest way to open a bottle of TETRA-ETCH® etchant? A. While cold, unscrew cap one or two turns then let stand at ambient conditions for about 2 hours to warm and become less viscous. The vapour will be vented through loosened cap thereby avoiding pressure build up. Before use, the bottle should be well shaken to disperse all particles....

For through hole plating of PC boards, how can you be sure that holes in the PTFE panel will be etched, especially when the holes are extremely fine? A. Reduce the viscosity of the TETRA-ETCH® etchant by dilution with TETRA-THIN® thinner and permit the etchant to penetrate the holes by capillary action. Soak time should be longer than for easy to reach surfaces (about 60-90 seconds). Start with a 1:1 by volume dilution....

What is the effect of ultraviolet radiation on an etched PTFE surface? A. Very long exposure times (a few days) to long wavelength UV (366nm, such as sunlight) will lighten the tan colour, gradually destroying the carbonaceous film and reducing bondability. Short exposures (24 to 48 hours) have no effect. Short wavelength UV has little or no effect. Q. Will strong mineral...
