Notes The following options must beinstalled in the piezo transla-
tors during the manufacturing
process. They must be ordered
with the
piezo actuator and
cannot be added later. If neces-sary contact your local PI officefor details on how to order
modified translators.
The P-177.10 option includesfactory calibration of any PI
servo-controller (see “Piezo
Drivers & NanopositioningControllers” section) deliveredalong with the sensor-equipped
piezo translator.consists of a specially sealedsteel case with integrated flex-
ure zones. Please call for
dimensions and further details.
The following translators are
available with water-resistant
cases: P-705.00 Positive Polarity All PI standard HVPZT transla-tors are negative polarity de-vices. The operating voltage isnegative; the case is positive/
GND. With the P-705.00 option
HVPZTs can be operated with
positive polarity. Case (GND) is negative (blacklead).Operating voltage is positive
(red lead). P-706.00 Water-Resistant Case The water-resistant case is rec-ommended if PZTs are used in
applications where spray of
coolants, oil, water, etc. might
damage the
piezo ceramics. It >

ics, the translators are available
with a ball tip instead of thestandard top piece. Dimensionsand part numbers are given in
the drawings for the individual
translators. P-702.20 Low-TemperatureRange (only for HVPZTs) P-703.20 UHV (for preloadedPZTs) -273°C to +80°C / -459°F to +176°F /0 K to 353 KGenerally all PZT ceramicsfunction down to zero kelvin.
However, piezo translators areconstructed of a combinationof materials (ceramics, metal,
insulating materials...) which
makes the situation more
complex. To qualify the piezoelectrictranslators for cryogenic tem-
peratures, special insulation
material and
industrial adhesives must
be used. The low-temperature
translators are delivered as
bare ceramic stacks withoutcase and mechanical preload. The
electrical connection is
via two 50 cm Teflon leads
without
industrial connectors. The piezo ceramics areenclosed in a stainless steelcase with vent holes. ThePZTs can be baked to 150°C.
The electrical connection is
via two 50 cm Teflon leads
without connector. The nomi-
nal displacement of the PZT is
reduced by about 20% (due tothe stiff insulation materials).P-703.20 includes P-702.10
(high-temperature range) if
ordered with HVPZTs. >
Vacuum Options ExtendedTemperature Range
All PI piezo translators can be
safely used in a vacuum out-side the range from 100 to 0.1 hPa (100 to 0.1 torr). See
the “Tutorial: Piezoelectrics in
Positioning” section, page
4-37for discussion. For appli-
cations that require reduced
outgassing, the P-703.10 and Standard HVPZTs work in thetemperature range from -40°C
to 80°C (-40°F to +176°F). For
applications requiring an
extended temperature rangethe following options areavailable: P-702.10 High-TemperatureRange (only for HVPZTs) -40°C to +150°C / -40°F to +302°F /
233 K to 423 KSpecial electrical insulationmaterials are used. Connec-
tion is via two 50 cm Teflonleads without connector. P-703.20 high-vacuum options are available. P-703.10 UHV (for non-pre-loaded PZTs) The translators are deliveredas bare ceramic stacks with-
out a case. The PZTs can bebaked up to 150°C. The elec-trical connection is via two 50
cm long Teflon leads without
connector. The nominal dis-
placement of the PZT is
reduced by about 20% (due to
the stiff insulation materials). P-703.10 includes P-702.10
(high-temperature range) if
ordered with HVPZTs. >
