| | | Identification Systems - Introduction Example of a transmission curve If code or data carriers are mounted on or near metal, the ranges are reduced as follows (in percent compared to the maximum possible range): | | |

| | | Designs of the read/write heads Regarding the designs of the heads and the code/data carriers, multiple requirements may coincide. On the one hand, these devices are to be mounted on or in existing parts and possibly there are limits for the mechanical dimensions. On the other hand, you often want to achieve the longest possible ranges. As the size of the heads also results in longer ranges, you need to find a suitable compromise. Both cylindrical designs which can be easily mounted in plates with drill holes as well as rectangular designs which can be easily screwed to surfaces are available. | | |
| | | |
| | | Maximum passing speed Certain minimum times are required for detecting the code carrier and for reading the data. In the case of large read/write heads, the time that the code carrier remains in the read range is longer. Thus, higher passing speeds can be achieved. The blue range (30 to 80% of the max. read distance) indicates the safely usable read range. | | |
