Identification Systems - Introduction

1.6Project planning of an identification system

The following must be considered during project planning of an identifica-tion system:

Data processing

It must be calculated which data volumes the system may cause (number of read points data volume read repetition rate), which data volumes can be collected via the Fieldbus system (data volume per cycle / cycle time) and processed in the PLC (safe data processing time < cycle time?). If there is an upward capacity bottleneck, this may cause a loss of data and thus process problems.

Read/write distances and tolerances

The read and write distances specified in the distance table must be ob-served in the application. Mechanical tolerances must also be considered in order to avoid zero points and double readings. If possible, the read/write heads and the data carriers should have a similar size (e.g. FP head with a coil size of approx. 70mm diameter and code carriers with 50mm diame-ter) such that the electromagnetic industrial coupling in the near field is as optimal as possible. Metal in the environment of the read heads and the code carriers reduces the possible read/write distances. For this reason, minimum distances must be observed or special code carriers designed for this purpose must be used. The following distance table specifies in which installation situation at least 75% of the maximum read distance is still reached.Installation and mounting requirements on metal for a read distance of more than 75%:

In the respective data sheet of the read/write head, the read/write distances are specified as max. limit value. Distance tables (combination of read/write head and code/data carrier) are listed at the end of the introduction of each system. z
