General specifications

The VAG-MOD-KF-R4 is a MODBUS gate-way with PLC MANUFACTURERS functionality. The design of thismaster is ideal for use in a industrial cabinet.Its hous- ing, only 60mm wide, occupies little space ina cabinet installation. The VAG-MOD-KF-R4is installed by snapping it onto the 35mmDIN Rail according to EN50022, with theintegrated Power Rail. The AS-Interface sig-nal is transmitted via conductors, which areintegrated in the Power Rail. Thus all cabinetmodules in KF housing can be connected tothe AS-Interface cable by simply snapping them onto the DIN Rail. The AS-Interfacedata can be accessed in a binary format(functions 1, 2, 5 and 15), or through the reg-isters (functions 3, 4, 6 and 16). MODBUSdiagnostic registers are supported.The AS-Interface data can be used in variousways. Important data is available eitherpacked or unpacked by means of the regis-ters or in the binary format. Thus the AS- Interface masters with MODBUS slave inter-face can be accessed by different MODBUSmasters and do not require large-scale adap- tations. Power to the master is supplied bythe AS-Interface cable.Two push buttons are used for addressassignment of the AS-Interface slaves andacceptance of the desired configuration. Inconfiguration mode, all detected AS-Interfaceslaves are displayed on the 2-digit LCD. Innormal operation, the LCD is blank unlessthe master detects a faulty AS-Interfaceslave. There are 7LEDs on the front panel,showing the current status of the AS-Inter-face line.

The VAG-MOD-KF-R4 has 16kBytes of pro-gram memory, 8kBytes of main memory,1024counters and 1024timers for the PLCfunctionality. These capacities suffice toprocess data on the AS-Interface. Thus the master can also be operated in "stand-alone"mode. The program processing time is 2msper 1000word commands. The programming language is based on the STEP5 The AS-i Control Tools software is supplied as restricted version together with the documen-tation. The software performs addressing, programming and monitoring of the AS-Interfacenetwork. In addition, it contains an editor that creates programs for the integrated PLC func-tionality. The full version of the AS-i Control Tool is available as an accessory and features an expanded diagnostics professional monitor as well as a larger program memory for AS-Interface Controlwhich makes it possible to detect faulty telegrams of slaves. program-ming language.
