The VAG-PB-G4F-R4 is a complete PROFI-BUS slave designed for use in the field. TheG4 field housing of the Profibus gateway
offers all the advantages of the serial masterin this design.Two operating modes are available for theexchange of data across PROFIBUSDP:standard and expanded. In standard modethe gateway uses a fixed I/O configuration sothat it can be put into operation without addi-tional parameter assignment. In expandedmode the data structure can be optimised,
enabling the user to define the data size sentto the PROFIBUS master. Owing to thereduction of required data, less I/O space isneeded in the PLC MANUFACTURERS. Two push buttons areused for address assignment, acceptance ofthe desired configuration, adjustment of thePROFIBUS address and baud rate. In config-uration mode, all detected AS-Interfaceslaves are displayed on the 2-digit LCD. In
normal operation, the LCD is blank unlessthe master detects a faulty AS-Interfaceslave.There are 7LEDs on the front panel,
showing the current status of the AS-Inter-face line.

PLC Functionality The VAG-PB-G4F-R4 provides 16kByte pro-gram memory, 8kByte RAM, 1024countersand 1024timers for PLC functionality. These
capacities suffice to process data on the AS-Interface. Thus the master can also be oper-ated in "stand-alone" mode. The programprocessing time is 2ms per 1000word com-mands. The programming language is basedon the STEP5

The device is supplied with the configuration data files (GSD) as well as a restricted version ofthe AS-i Control Tools software. The software performs the addressing, programming andmonitoring of the AS-Interface network. In addition, it contains an editor that creates programsfor the integrated PLC functionality. The full version of the AS-i Control Tools is available as
an accessory and features an expanded diagnostics professional monitor as well as a larger programmemory for AS-Interface Control which makes it possible to detect faulty telegrams of slaves.A GSD file can be easily created for the PROFIBUSDP using the GSD assistant, whereby
the size of the I/O windows can be conveniently adapted to the AS-Interface circuit's load andthe AS-Interface configuration can be stored within the GSD file. A text file is also created,which documents the status of AS-Interface data in the gateway's I/O window. programming language. TheAS-Interface CTRL functions (upload, down-load, start, stop, read and write internalmemory) are available in expanded mode. Note: The VAZ-PB-SIM accessory is required for the AS-i Control Tools.
