General specifications

The VBM-CTR-PCI-DM is an AS-Interfacedouble master with PLC SUPPLIERS functionality, espe-cially designed for operation with a PCI bus, which is available in every modern PC. Theplug-and-play properties of the hardware anddriver permit up to 4masters to be operatedat the same time, and thus render manualconfigurations redundant. The efficient eventcontrol of the card allows data to beexchanged rapidly. Thus the performance ofthe system is considerably enhanced. AnInterrupt is not necessary; it does however support the event control on system leveland thus enhances the performance of thesystem once again. Communication between AS-Interface mas-ter and PC is monitored by means of aswitchable watchdog. In case the PC has asystem crash, the AS-Interface master is set"off-line" and thus all outputs are set inactive.Extended diagnostic functions allow sporadi- cal configuration errors to be located, andAS-Interface communication to be assessedwith regard to quality. Drivers are available for Windows95/98/2000/NT.

Professional software

The AS-i Control Tools software is supplied as restricted version together with the documen-tation. The software performs addressing, programming and monitoring of the AS-Interfacenetwork. In addition, it contains an editor that creates programs for the integrated PLC func-tionality. The full version of the AS-i Control Tool is available as an accessory and features an expanded diagnostics professional monitor as well as a larger program memory for AS-Interface Controlwhich makes it possible to detect faulty telegrams of slaves. PLC Functionality The VBM-CTR-PCI-DM provides 4kBytes ofprogram memory, 8kBytes of main memory,1024counters and 1024timers for PLC func- tionality. These capacities suffice to processdata on the AS-Interface. Thus the mastercan also be operated in "stand-alone" mode.The program processing time is 2ms per1000word commands. The programminglanguage is based on the STEP5 program-ming language.
