AS-Interface - Field modules

5.2Field modules

There are three designs available as standard field modules in protection class IP67:•Flat housing with M12 connector supplier (G2 design)•Field modules with cable glands supplier (G4 design)•Compact modules with M8 connector (G6 design)In the
Masters and GatewaysPower Supplies, Extender, RepeatersSafety at workI/O ModulesControl professional cabinet G2 series with M12 connector, the cable as well as the module can be quickly exchanged in case of failure without requiring an electrician. The flat cable can be inserted in two directions, making cable layout simpler. An addressing professional jack makes the module easy and quick to address using the VBP-HH1 hand-held. Due to its small height, this series is well-suited even when space is short.Communications are monitored and in case of failure, the outputs can be powered off. Devices in two sizes (4ports/8ports) and in PNP or NPN ver-sions are available. Dual sensors or 4-wire sensors can be connected di-rectly to the module with 2 signal inputs on an M12 connector. In most G2 modules, the inputs from pin 2 and pin 4 are bridged from two neighboring spots for this reason. If only one signal input is to be used, however, a three- strand connector cable should be used. The
Only one screw necessary on the housing top G4 series, in two sizes for the input and input/output module, already include the cable entry glands. An already completed wiring job is thus par-ticularly simple and cost-effective to extend.Connection is performed using cage-clamp terminals, which require no strand end sleeves. For connection to the AS-Interface flat cable, the U-G1F base (AS-Interface only) is required for the input modules, and the U-G1FF base (AS-Interface plus external power supply specification) is required for the input/output modules. For address configuration, the modules can be plugged directly into the handheld. If the U-1GFA or U-1GFFA based with addressing jacks are used, they can also be addressed through the base. Round professional cables can also be used for the AS-Interface cable. In this case, the U-G1P or U-G1PP base is required. There are versions available for contact and two-wire sensors, for NAMUR sensors as per IEC60947-5-6, and for three-wire sensors in PNP or NPN technologies. The

By using M8 plug connec- tors to connect sensors, compactness and flexibility can be combined.Using the VAZ-2T5-G2 splitter box, up to fiveG6 compact modules can be connected via one M12 connector cable, which is also used for address configuration. If only a few G6 modules must be connected, this can also be done using a VAZ-2T1-FK-1M-PUR-V1-W simple junction box.The short circuit protected inputs supply the sensors with max. 200mA. Contacts or two-wire sensors can also be connected, using Pin4 (Signal) and Pin3 (GND). A maximum of 0.5A per output and 2A per module is al-lowable. The modules provide communication monitoring as well as a func-tion display for the bus, external auxiliary power, and the inputs and outputs.
