AS-Interface - Switch professional cabinet and junction box modules
5.1 Switch cabinet and junction box modules
The KF series, with only a 20 mm widht, provides 4 short-circuit protected inputs, or with a 40 mm width, 4 short-circuit protected inputs and 4 short-circuit protected outputs. A function indicator is available for each channel. The outputs can drive up to 2 A per output and have an external power supply. If no AS-Interface communication occurs, parameter bit P0 can be used to set whether the outputs should then be powered down within 80 ms.
Connection is performed using pluggable coded industrial terminal blocks, guaranteeing fast and error-free exchanges. The terminals can also be connected under power. The maximum allowable wire size is 2.5 mm2.
The KF modules can simply be popped onto the 35 mm DIN rail (as per EN 50022) in the switch cabinet and connected via Power Rail, so that, for instance, only the master in the KF housing must be wired to the AS-Interface flat wire. To do this, either the inset component PR-05 in 0.5 m lengths for the DIN rail is required, or UPR-05 continuous complete rails including DIN rail (2 m lengths, may be cut) can be used.
In the KF housing there is also a data coupler available which can transmit 4 bits of data from one AS-Interface network to a second network.

Alternatively, modules of the KE series can be used in the switch cabinet. In this type, up to 4 inputs and 3 outputs are provided in only 22.5 mm width.
The KE series also features coloured terminal blocks, making connection particularly simple:
yellow: AS-Interface
black: Inputs/Outputs
red: relay outputs.
The Power Rail connection is not supported by the KE series.

In decentralised installations, flat junction boxes are often used in order to connect to contacts or sensors. The KE1 series is suitable for this use, with up to 4 inputs and 2 outputs in only 22.5 mm of width and 50 mm of height.
Power supply suppliers is accomplished over the AS-Interface and the KE1 modules are easy to pop onto the DIN rails. The terminals are colour-coded to prevent confusion.
The somewhat taller housings of the KE2 series, with two rows of terminals, can be used, for example, with analoguemodules in the switch cabinet.
If 3-wire sensors are attached to a junction box, or power is externally supplied, the K3 series is the right solution. In a width of 71 mm and a height of only 40 mm, up to 4 inputs and 3 outputs can be connected. A version with relay output is also available.
Connection is performed by screw terminals (wire size max. 2.5 mm2).
