10 Gigabit Ethernet over Copper
The bandwidth trends in today's networks suggest the steady migration of workstation data rate speeds from 100 Mb/s (100BASE-T) towards 1,000 Mb/s (1000BASE-T). Furthermore, there is an increased utilization of data centers in LAN environments to improve efficiencies of computer devices (servers, switches, routers) and data storage within networks. As high-speed data rates from workstations are aggregated at data center computer devices, IEEE has recognized the need for a new low cost 10 Gb/s Ethernet copper cabling solution.
The PANDUIT * TX6 10Gig ™ UTP and Shielded Copper Cabling System is a complete solution, not just a new cable. Each component features innovative complementary design technologies working together to suppress alien NEXT,while delivering Class EA/Augmented Category 6 electrical performance beyond 500 MHz.The PANDUIT' TX6 10Gig ™ UTP and Shielded Copper Cabling System provides end-users with a cost effective media to meet the demanding network requirements of today and tomorrow.
This progression in technology for Ethernet network communications will provide users with a reliable, cost effective, and straight forward method for addressing the most demanding bandwidth needs of their LAN. Primary users for this new technology will include high-end data centers, workstations, and web-enabling applications.
10 Gigabit Ethernet over Fiber
The need for low cost, high bandwidth Enterprise networks has led to the development of a new class of multimode fibers (ISO designated as OM3 fibers). These fibers enable cost-effective structured cabling solutions by employing low-cost,VCSEL-based transceivers. These systems are designed to deliver 10 Gb/s at a reach of up to 300m using Ethernet protocol.
Because of the availability of low-cost 10 Gb/s transmitter technology,OM3 fiber media and connectivity systems present a less expensive solution than laser-based channels with singlemode fiber. It follows then, that the most economical upgrade paths are those that exploit these solutions wherever practical.
Selection of multimode fiber cabling solutions require that data integrity, manageability, and security be balanced with reasonable cost expectations and future growth requirements (scalability). For 10 Gb/s systems,PANDUIT recommends the selection of standards-compliant structured cabling to accommodate near-term and anticipated speed requirements.
PANDUIT has developed a comprehensive suite of 10Gig™ Fiber Cabling products that push beyond the standards using Beyond The Glass" Design Excellence. PANDUIT fiber research, product development, and manufacturing expertise assure consistent high performance and reliability throughout the structured cabling system.
PANDUIT focuses on functional Bit Error Rate (BER) testing as the true determination of 10 Gb/s channel performance, and considers BER testing as the evaluation method most relevant to the reliable operation of 10 Gigabit networks.
