Oberon’s Balaclava Sock Hood is designed to provide protection from low-level energy arc flash hazards. When worn
with a Arc Faceshield with a minimum arc rating of 8, the sockhood and the faceshield provide all around head protection
and together they meet NFPA 70E Hazard Risk Category 2* (HRC2*).
NFPA 70E Article 130.7(C)(1) requires that an employee working within the Flash Protection Boundary wears protective
clothing and other personal protective equipment.
Note: PPE should be chosen to meet or exceed the expected incident energy at the potential work site.

The Balaclava Sock Hood is constructed entirely of FR materials, including
the thread. The FR Rayon PBI knit fabric provides excellent stretch to
comfortably fit the user’s head.
When worn with a balaclava sockhood, the shield provides all around head
protection and meets NFPA 70E Hazard Risk Category 2* (HRC2*).
Every lineman, electrical contractor, industrial electrician and thermographer,
working in the proximity of an energized circuit, is at risk of serious or even fatal
burns. Every day in the USA, there are approximately 10 Arc Flash incidents and up
to 3 fatalities. An Arc Flash can cause 3rd degree burns in a fraction of a second.
NFPA 70E standard was developed to address this hazard, establishing a series
of work practices and protective measures to reduce the risk of injury.
