The deluxe model comes with scratch resistant coating for longer product life on the outer surface and antifog coating for clearer visibility on the inner surface. Every lineman, electrical contractor, industrial electrician and thermographer, working in the proximity of an energized circuit, is at risk of serious or even fatal burns. Every day in the USA, there are approximately 10 Arc Flash incidents and up to 3 fatalities. An Arc Flash can cause 3rd degree burns in a fraction of a second. NFPA 70E standard was developed to address this hazard, establishing a series of work practices and protective measures to reduce the risk of injury. Oberon’s FaceFit® ArcShieldTM is designed to provide protection from low-level energy arc flash hazards. The shield, when worn with a balaclava sockhood, exceeds the requirements of NFPA 70E Hazard Risk Category 2* (HRC2*), up to 12 cal/cm2. The FaceFit® ArcShield™ is manufactured by an injection molding process with Oberon’s proprietary ArcX™ polycarbonate energy absorbing material. This high-tech material allows a visible light transmission of an amazing 58%. The ArcShieldTM arc rating (ATPV) is 12 cal/cm². The Arcshield comes standard with a slotted hard cap with Slot-Fit™ adaptors, upper and lower crown, plus side shield extenders. The upper and lower crown protects the forehead and chin. Side extenders give side head coverage beyond the ears. The deluxe version of the ArcShield comes with the outer surface coated with Oberon’s proprietary material Silicote™-1 scratch resistant coating (for longer product life) and a permanent antifog coating on the inner surface, for increased visibility. Dimension: 14’x8’ vision area, 0.105 thickness, two 6’ side shield extenders, two 4’ crowns (upper and lower). These shields are tested according to ASTM F-2178-02a and ANSI Z87.1-2003. NFPA 70E Article 130.7(C)(1) requires that an employee working within the Flash Protection Boundary wears protective clothing and other personal protective equipment.
