PRODUCTS
Oberon Arc Flash Cooling Vest is designed to provide boby cooling the electrical worker. It includes a set of eight cooling
packs that provide cooling for several hours. The cooling time, however, may vary depending upon the ambient temperature
and the exertion level of the worker wearing the vest.
All the materials used in the construction of the cooling vest are Flame Retardant (FR). Contrary to other cooling vests on
the market, the cooling packs included in Oberon’s Arc Flash Cooling Vest have no hazardous chemicals, are noncombustible
and are non-toxic to the skin. The vest meets OSHA 29CFR1910.269 (l)(6) iii. It has been Arc tested but is
not Arc rated due to the limited surface area it covers. The arms, the neck, the upper chest and the area on the side of the
chest under the arms are uncovered.
The vest is not intended to be used as a primary Arc Flash protection because it does not cover the entire upper body. It
should be used in conjunction with and under proper Arc rated garments. For maximum effectiveness, the cooling vest
should be worn snug to the body against the ribcage to provide cooling to the upper torso. It is equipped with four
horizontal elastic Velcro adjustable straps to adjust the vest to a comfortable fit.
For ideal comfort, the cooling packs should be refrigerated before using. In the field, where no formal refrigeration is
available, the cooling packs can be placed in ice water in a cooler before using. A separate set of cooling packs can be
kept in the cooler and rotated with those in the vest for continuous use. Freezing the packs will extend the cooling time
but the temperature difference will be more noticeable to the body. The frozen cooling packs will be uncomfortably rock
hard and may cause cold spots on the skin. It is normal not to feel a sudden chill after putting on the cooling vest
because it is not intended to drop the body temperature, but to keep the body temperature level for a period of time.
