Medium Voltage and High Voltage Submarine Cable Systems for Wind Farm ProjectsContinuously in Business for more than 130 Years

nkt cables supplied 20kV submarine cables to offshore installations with inte- grated optical fibres for additional com-munication and transmission of process data. The latest development is the new NKT industrial monitoring system with RTTR soft-ware „ADAP PRO“ (Real Time Ther-mal Rating), based on optical fibres in power cables. This system enables our customers to optimize the performance of their high voltage transmission systems – both, on and offshore. What began with submarine telecom cables more than 130 years ago was continued with paper insulated power cables and subsequently with the de- velopment of Power Cable Systems, based on XLPE technology up to the highest current levels. Therefore,

nkt cables builds on this experience when it comes to tailormade and economic power transmission installations for on- shore and offshore applications. As one of the first cable producers,

More about the Middelgrunden Project (Denmark):

In December 1999 nkt cables was awarded the contract of linking the world’s largest offshore wind farm with the existing electricity grid. The order included 12 km three core 36 kV XLPE submarine cable, transformers and switchgear. The installation was completed in 2001. It consists of two submarine cables from the main connection of the farm to Ama-ger Power Station and a 5 km long cable for the interconnection of 20 windtur-bines (cluster cables). Fibre optic cable is integrated in the submarine cable to secure communication and control of the turbines.
