MC-3100 Motor Controllerfor SQL Series SQUIGGLE MotorsThe MC-3100 motor controller generates ultrasonic signals to drive two SQL-1.8 SQUIGGLE motors in open-loop or closed-loop operation. Use this full-function motor controller to easily evaluate SQUIGGLE motors using the intuitive control software and scripting interface provided. The controller sends drive signals to one or two SQUIGGLE motors based on the input from a computer or manual handset.MC-3100 Motor Controller allows OEMS to easily evaluate open-loop and closed-loop performance of SQL Series SQUIGGLE motors. Computer control – connect the MC-3100 to a PC USB port: The control software enables simple point-and-click operation of the motor. You can also build and run scripts using the intuitive scripting environment, or write routines using your own software and the included ActiveX function library. Manual control – use the optional handset to control the motor.Each MC-3100 drive card operates one or two SQUIGGLE motors. You can manage multiple motor controllers simultaneously from a single control software window. Open-loop vs. closed-loop operation We recommend closed-loop operation when repeatable step size, absolute position or precise velocity control is needed. The MC-3100 accepts input from remote position sensors or switches for closed-loop motion control. With a digital (incremental) encoder as a position sensor, the resolution is determined by the resolution of the encoder. With an analog position sensor, closed-loop position resolution is determined by the A/D converter, the resolution of the position sensor, and the resolution of the motor. (See the application note, Creating Closed-Loop Positioning Systems Using SQUIGGLE Motors. )When using the MC-3100 controller in open-loop mode, you can calibrate a motor’s average step size in response to a number of drive pulses. Open-loop position resolution is listed on the motor data sheets. Control software provided with the MC-3100 enables point-and-click control via a PC USB port. It also includes a scripting interface and ActiveX command library. Configurable system for evaluation or OEM integration The MC-3100 is a mother board/daughter board configuration. The mother board includes the processor, position sensor input with 12-bit A/D converter, limit switch input and PC/handset interface. The daughter board contains the motor driver ASIC, related boost circuit and two motor connectors. Both the daughter board (MC-31DB) and ASIC (NSD-1102) are also available separately for integration into OEM systems. See the separate data sheets for more information. We work closely with OEM customers to develop integrated SQUIGGLE motor systems including position sensors, housings, and controllers designed for your unique needs. The MC-31DB daughter board (included with the MC-3100 controller) contains the NSD-1102 drive chip and required components to drive two SQL-1.8 SQUIGGLE motors using an I 2 C interface.
