Solutions By Sensor Type: Pressure Schaevitz

®

Bonded foil strain gage (BFSG) industrial pressure transducers by Measurement Specialties are designed for extreme industrial environments:The key feature of the Schaevitz® BFSG pressure transducer is the overloadprotection for the diaphragm and sensing element called the over-travel-stop(OTS). OTS gives the Schaevitz bonded foil a minimum of five times overrange pressure rating without damage or drift. This protection allows the BFSG transducer to achieve maximum resolution at the targeted pressure range with minimal noise from amplification gain as compared with competitor product that would need to be ranged higher to accommodate overpressure spikes. The principle of the transducer is a force-summing diaphragm coupled via aforce rod (pushrod) to a strain-gaged double cantilever beam with integralisolation flexures, forming a four-arm Wheatstone bridge in a verysymmetrical manner. This design lends itselfto a stiff system withhigh long-term stability. This structure alsoprovides the benefits ofthermal isolation from high temperature transients, shock loads and vibration. This fact has been essentialin military and aerospace applications where the bonded foil OTS structure has been the only product to meet long-term stability requirements without degradation or failure.
