Moldflow Magics STL Expert™ is a powerful tool for viewing, measuring, correcting and optimizing STL and solid surface models imported from popular 3D CAD/CAM systems in preparation for analysis using Moldflow Plastics Advisers® (MPA®) or Moldflow Plastics Insight® (MPI®). Moldflow Magics STL Expert can be used to very quickly validate STL models and resolve any identified problems.Moldflow Magics STL Expert also interfaces with Moldflow Design Link™ (MDL™) to import solid surface models and convert them to STL format, which can then be optimized for use with MPA and MPI.

Capabilities

• View and manipulate STL and IGES models• Interface with Moldflow Design Link (MDL) to convert Parasolid, Pro/ENGINEER, SolidWorks, CATIA V5, and STEP models to quality STL models• Robust STL model checking/fixing using an Automatic Fix Wizard for very quick repair of quality issues to assure an accurate STL model• Access numerous manual fixing tools to complement the automatic fix wizard• Perform diagnostics check to assess model quality and get a count of various issues that commonly afflict STL models• Quickly locate quality issues with intelligent, colored error assignment on model surfaces• Receive problem-specific advice on the corrective course of action• Measure thicknesses, distances, radii, diameters, angles, and coordinates of various entities directly on the STL model• Leverage feature recognition and auto snapping options to quickly select model features • View STL models with various display options, including shaded, wireframe, shaded & wireframe, triangle to quickly visualize either a solid rendering or STL facets or surface regions• Clipping planes allow for quick cross-section views that can be dynamically moved across the model• Access advanced editing features such as translation, reorientation and scaling of the part model• Labeling tools enhance visualization and hardcopy print of part dimensions, part information, various measurements, and the coordinate system• Optimize the input STL model to MPA and MPI analyses by using triangle reduction to minimize the STL model size and complexity without any loss of accuracy• Transform STL model triangles characterized by irregular size and high aspect ratio to uniform size and low aspect ratio by using the remesh feature• Export quality STL models for use with MPA and MPI simulations, or any application that accepts STL format as input
